A cabin cruiser became engulfed in flames Thursday afternoon on Mission Bay, leaving two occupants with serious injuries.

The 30-foot vessel caught fire for unknown reasons near Dana Landing shortly after 3 p.m., the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department reported.

Lifeguards rescued the two people aboard the boat and put out the fire, and medics took the injured pair to UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest.

The vessel was then towed to shore at Ventura Cove, where firefighters doused it with water to extinguish remaining hot spots.

The Coast Guard was called in to clean up fuel spilled from the charred boat.
