A homeowner fired several shots at an intruder suspected of stealing tools from the shed of his San Ysidro home Friday morning, but the intruder was not struck and fled the area, police said.
Dispatchers received a call around 4:25 a.m. from a neighbor who reported hearing gunshots in the 3000 block of Glancy Drive, off Camino De La Plaza, San Diego police Officer Tony Martinez said.
A short time later, the homeowner called dispatchers and reported that he had fired several shots at an intruder after going to check on a noise coming from a shed in his backyard, Martinez said.
When he went to the backyard, the homeowner noticed several tools missing from the shed and he confronted the intruder — who had a tool in his hand — then fired several shots at him, the officer said.
The intruder fled the area in an unknown direction, Martinez said, adding that officers did not find any evidence that the suspect was struck by the gunfire.
The suspect was described as a roughly 5-foot-8 black man wearing dark clothing.
Detectives from SDPD’s southern division were investigating the incident.
