A 71-year-old pedestrian was killed Wednesday in a predawn hit-and-run crash in the far northern reaches of San Diego County.
The man was crossing East Mission Road at Iowa Street in Fallbrook about 5 a.m. when a white SUV struck him, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver then fled the area, CHP public-affairs Officer Mark Latulippe said.
The victim, a Fallbrook resident whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene.
The vehicle that struck the man is believed to be a late-1990s or early 2000s model Chevrolet Suburban or GMC Yukon XL, Latulippe said.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the CHP at 858-637-3800.
