The robbers entered the apartment in the 5300 block of Toscana Way through the unlocked front door and confronted the renters shortly after midnight, according to San Diego Police. One of the intruders pointed a handgun at the trio while his accomplice gathered valuables from inside the dwelling, Officer John Buttle said.

While being held at gunpoint, one of the residents grabbed the armed thief’s gun, prompting a struggle during which the bandit struck him with the weapon. Following the fight, the robbers fled with an undetermined amount of stolen property.

The man who had been pistol-whipped declined medical treatment, Buttle said.

The victims described the perpetrators as white men in their 20s, dressed in black pants and green jackets with black stripes.
