The San Diego Police Department announced a Saturday night drunk driving checkpoint somewhere in the city limits.
Officers will be stopping cars between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday and checking for both alcohol impairment and proper licensing.
“Marijuana can also be impairing,” the department noted, “especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can result in a DUI.”
The checkpoint location will be chosen based on previous DUI accidents and arrests.
Checkpoints and saturation patrols are routinely announced in advance because of the deterrent effect on people who might drink to excess and then drive.
