A man was badly hurt when he was struck by a car after stopping to tie his shoe on an Escondido street, police said.
Around 5:30 p.m. Friday, police and firefighters headed to the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Quince Street for a report of a pedestrian collision, Escondido Police Lt. Mike Kearney said. They found a 59-year-old man injured at the scene.
The man’s injuries were serious but non-life-threatening.
Witnesses told police the man was walking north on Quince Street and had stopped to tie his shoe in an alley, Kearney said. Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man was driving a 2006 Nissan Armada west in the alley, and struck the pedestrian as he pulled onto Quince Street.
Detectives were continuing to investigate the crash.
