An inmate at the Vista Detention Center died while being treated for a medical condition at an area hospital, a sheriff’s deputy said Saturday.
The inmate, a 45-year-old man, had a previously existing medical condition and had been on life support when he died just after noon Saturday, San Diego Sheriff‘s Lt. Michael Blevins said.
The man had been in custody for more than a year — since Nov. 9, 2017 — on charges including attempted murder, torture, elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats, Blevins said.
Deputies did not immediately release the man’s name pending family notification. Homicide detectives, who investigate all in-custody deaths, were investigating as standard procedure.
