A man was hospitalized Wednesday but was expected to survive following a stabbing in the Cherokee Point neighborhood, police said.
Dispatchers received a call around 3:45 a.m. from a man in the 3500 block of University Avenue who reported that he had been stabbed, San Diego Police Officer Sarah Foster said.
Officers responded to the area and found a man, believed to be in his late 20s, with a stab wound to his chest, Foster said.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of the wound, which was not believed to be life-threatening, Foster said.
Investigators believe the stabbing may have happened in an area near the intersection of Cherokee Avenue and Landis Street, Foster said.
No suspect descriptions were immediately available.
Detectives from the San Diego Police Department’s Mid-City division were investigating the circumstances leading up to the stabbing.
