The sheriff’s department is asking the public for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect who shot a 62-year-old man in front of a Lemon Grove bank Wednesday.

The suspect approached the victim around noon as the man sat in his car parked in front of a walk-up ATM at a Union Bank located at 3285 Lemon Grove Avenue, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Jacob Klepach.

The suspect pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the man, demanded money, took his cell phone, shot him once in the leg, then fled in a small black crossover SUV, Klepach said.

The robber was wearing a hat, sunglasses, a bandana covering his face and an orange shirt, Klepach continued.

The victim’s injury is not considered life-threatening, according to Klepach.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477; a $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to a felony arrest.
