Three people had to be extricated from a vehicle that crashed into a fire station Friday night in La Jolla, but there were no reported injuries.
The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. at San Diego Fire-Rescue station 9 located at Ardath Way and Torrey Pines Road.
Firefighters were eating dinner in a kitchen, approximately 12 feet from where the vehicle crashed into the station’s exterior patio wall, according to SDFD Battalion Chief Joseph Scuri. The crew escaped injury and was able to rescue all victims from the wreckage.
A gas line to an exterior barbecue unit was struck during the crash, but firefighters quickly turn off gas to the station house, and SDG&E was called to repair the line.
According to a tweet from the SDFD, a structural engineer is evaluating the station house damage.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
