Border Patrol agents from the El Cajon station arrested a four-time convicted felon after he entered the country illegally near the Tecate crossing, the agency reported Thursday.

The incident occurred at 4:35 p.m. Wednesday after agents spotted a man 20 yards north of the border. After detaining and interviewing the man, agents identified him as a Mexican national with no documentation allowing him to legally remain in the United States.

Border Patrol agents ran record checks and identified the man as Ramon Barajas-Gallegos, 55, whose record includes felony convictions for forcible rape, robbery with a firearm, assault with a firearm, and kidnapping to commit robbery with a firearm.

“Our agents’ vigilance prevented this dangerous person from illegally re-entering our communities,” said San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodney S. Scott.

Barajas-Gallegos is being held in federal custody pending removal and deportation proceedings.
