Authorities Wednesday identified a 65-year-old woman who was killed in Jamul by a hit-and-run driver.

Ashley Bevers of Jamul was crossing state Route 94 westbound near Maxfield Road around 7:20 p.m. Friday when she was struck by a white Toyota Corolla heading west on the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol and the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The man driving the Toyota at first pulled over and got out of the car, then hopped back in and fled the area, continuing west on SR 94 before officers were able to arrest him, according to the CHP.

Paramedics transported Bevers to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest, where she was later pronounced dead, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Wissam Yousif of Santee, 38, was booked into a San Diego County jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, CHP Officer Travis Garrow said.
