The Department of Homeland Security and other law enforcement agencies intercepted 10 people who attempted to illegally enter the United States on a pleasure craft earlier this week.
Early on Tuesday morning, a Customs and Border Protection air unit observed a pleasure craft operating without running lights around 14 miles west of the Coronado Islands.
The air unit relayed the location to the Joint Harbor Operations Center, activating a response by CBP units and the Coast Guard.
The pleasure boat was intercepted 24 nautical miles off of La Jolla and boarded at about 3 a.m.
All 10 people on the boat were taken to a secure location and met by Border Patrol agents. The passengers admitted to being Mexican nationals. The included an alleged smuggler, seven men and two women
