A woman was killed when she stepped out of her boyfriend’s car onto a Chula Vista street and was struck by a passing vehicle, authorities reported Saturday.
Police were called about 7:45 p.m. Friday to the scene on H Street near Interstate 805, according to the Chula Vista Police Department.
Police told Fox5 the woman had been in the car, when for an unknown reason, she got out the vehicle and stepped into the roadway and was hit by the passing car.
A man who lives in the neighborhood told Fox5 he often hears speeding cars on that stretch of H Street.
“Usually I hear the screeching of tires and boom,” the unnamed neighbor said. “But that wasn’t like that. It was just something smashing into, you know, hollowed doors of a car.”
The driver of the vehicle that struck the woman stayed at the scene and he was later taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash, police said.
