Small Brush Fire Briefly Shuts Down State Route 67 in Lakeside

A half-acre brush fire briefly shut down state Route 67 on Monday afternoon a nearby water plant was briefly evacuated, CalFire said.

The fire started around 12:30 p.m. on the 11000 block of SR-67 near Willow Road in Lakeside, CalFire Capt. Issac Sanchez said.

Crews quickly got the fire under control and stopped the fire from spreading, he said. Employees from the nearby Sparkletts Water Plant also tried to put out the fire using five-gallon bottles.

SR-67 was shut down in both directions at Willow Road and the water plant was evacuated while crews were battling the fire, Sanchez said. The evacuation and closure were lifted around 1:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation but investigators were talking to a person of interest, Sanchez said.
