A driver suspected of fleeing the scene after seriously injuring a bicyclist in Vista was in jail in Tuesday morning.
Deputies from Vista Station responded shortly before 5:40 p.m. Monday to Lobelia Drive near University Avenue to investigate a hit-and-run collision, according to Sgt. Frank Sandoval of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
During the investigation, deputies learned that a man driving a 2010 Toyota sedan eastbound on Lobelia Drive had struck the bicyclist then fled the scene, Sandoval said. The victim was taken to a hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, he said.
A witness to the crash was able to identify the driver and vehicle and directed deputies to the location of the vehicle. The driver was located and arrested on suspicion of fleeing the scene of the accident, Sandoval said.
The suspect was booked into the Vista Detention Facility. Alcohol or drugs were not believed to have been factors in the collision, said Sandoval.
