The San Diego Police Department announced a DUI and license checkpoint will be set up somewhere within the city limits on Thursday night.
Officers will be stopping drivers from 11 p.m. Thursday until 3 a.m. Friday to check for excessive use of marijuana or alcohol as well as proper licensing. The location will be chosen based on previous accidents and arrests.
Police regularly announce the checkpoints in advance because of the deterrent effect on drivers who may over-indulge and then get on the road.
Those caught driving impaired can expect the impact of an arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspensions and expenses that can exceed $10,000.
