Authorities Friday identified a 47-year-old man who died after collapsing on a hiking trail in Poway.

Victor Parra of Chula Vista was hiking the Blue Sky Canyon Trail with friends when he collapsed around noon Saturday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Bystanders performed CPR until paramedics arrived and Parra was transported by helicopter to Sharp Grossmont Hospital, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Despite resuscitation efforts by medical staff, Parra was pronounced dead at 1:53 p.m., according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Parra’s cause of death is still under investigation.
