Firefighters Sunday morning were able to completely contain a small brush fire that broke out Saturday afternoon, just south of Interstate 8 east of El Cajon.
Crews reached 100 percent containment of the roughly-three-acre blaze around 8 a.m., Cal Fire Capt. Issac Sanchez said.
The fire was first reported about 5 p.m. Saturday off of I-8 east of Greenfield Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The blaze was at one acre and had a “rapid rate-of-spread” as of about 5:15 p.m., the Lakeside Fire Protection District tweeted.
By about 5:30 p.m., fire crews were getting a good handle on the flames, helped by sparse fuels, and a strike team was called off, a fire district spokesman told City News Service.
Cal Fire San Diego tweeted around the same time that the fire’s spread had been halted.
No evacuations were ordered.
The right lane of eastbound I-8 was blocked Saturday evening while crews fought the fire.
