Firefighters battled a small brush fire south of Interstate 8 just outside the El Cajon city limits on Saturday afternoon.
The fire broke out about 5 p.m. off of I-8 east of Greenfield Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The blaze was at one acre and had a “rapid rate-of-spread” as of about 5:15 p.m., the Lakeside Fire Protection District tweeted.
By about 5:30 p.m., fire crews were getting a good handle on the flames, helped by sparse fuels, and a strike team was called off, a fire district spokesman told City News Service.
No evacuations were ordered.
The right lane of eastbound I-8 was blocked while crews fought the fire.
