Authorities Friday identified a 40-year-old bicyclist who died Monday after he was struck by a truck at an El Cajon intersection.
Transient Jason Wilcox was riding a bicycle eastbound on Pepper Drive when a Ford F-150 traveling northbound on Second Street entered the intersection at 10:28 p.m. Monday and struck him from the right side, California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow said.
Wilcox was ejected from the bike onto the roadway, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
A 60-year-old man driving the truck immediately stopped to render aid to Wilcox, who suffered critical injuries, Garrow said.
Wilcox was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:18 p.m. despite paramedics’ attempts to revive him, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Alcohol or drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash, according to Garrow.
