A motorist was seriously injured late Friday afternoon when her car veered off state Route 78 and careened into a parking lot near El Camino Country Club, authorities reported.
The westbound vehicle crashed off the highway in the area of Valley Glen Drive and Vista Way in Oceanside for unknown reasons about 4:45 p.m., according to police.
The car went through a chain-link fence before landing in a parking area east of El Camino Real, where it hit several other vehicles, Lt. Dan Sullivan said.
Emergency crews had to free the driver from her crumpled sedan, the lieutenant said. An air ambulance was called in to take her to a hospital.
