That driver was trapped inside the fiery, mangled sedan when rescue crews arrived at Spring Canyon Road and Scripps Creek Drive, San Diego police Officer Steve Bourasa said.

He was transported to a hospital and sustained a broken arm, escaping more serious, life-threatening injuries, Bourasa said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened about 7:10 Friday morning, Bourasa said. Investigators from the San Diego Police Department’s traffic unit were investigating the cause of the accident.
