Two people were injured Monday after a driver lost control of her SUV and crashed into a light pole, sending it into a La Mesa business.
The driver and her daughter were injured when her vehicle, for unknown reasons, left the road and crashed into a light pole at the La Mesa Springs shopping center in the 7900 block of La Mesa Boulevard, Heartland Fire Battalion Chief Todd Nelson said.
The SUV hit a large concrete support for a large light pole, sending it flying toward the China Super Buffet restaurant, he said. The vehicle then struck one of the wooden support beams for the restaurant’s roof.
When the owner of the restaurant heard the crash, he ran outside and found the daughter laying in the parking lot outside of the SUV, crying and screaming, a news photographer at the scene said.
The woman and her daughter were transported to an area hospital for unknown injuries.
A La Mesa building inspector was on the scene to assess the damage, but the restaurant was still open for business, the news photographer said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
