A hit-and-run crash killed a pedestrian on a Mission Hills thoroughfare early Thursday.
The fatality on West Washington Street near West University Avenue was reported shortly before 12:30 a.m., according to San Diego police. The unidentified victim, who appeared to be in his 40s and was possibly a transient, died at the scene, Officer Tony Martinez said.
The vehicle that hit the man is believed to be a 2001 or 2002 Hyundai Sonata, according to police. The motorist fled to the east following the deadly impact.
Anyone with information in the case was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
