A 90-year-old woman was killed after an 18-year-old man lost control of his car and slammed into a vehicle occupied by three other seniors who were also injured in Scripps Ranch Sunday, San Diego police said.
The crash, involving two vehicles, happened just after 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Pomerado and Willow Creek roads, according to SDPD Sgt. Ed Zwibel and Officer Tony Martinez.
According to police, the unnamed 18-year-old motorist was driving a BMW sedan at a high rate of speed when crossed an island on Willow Creek Road and hit a Chevrolet Sonic with four seniors inside, Zwibel said.
The 90-year-old woman died at the scene and her three passengers suffered serious injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment, Zwibel said.
The identity of the deceased woman was withheld pending notification of kin. The current condition of the other victims was unknown.
Drugs and/or alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash, Zwibel said.
