A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed Friday in a rush-hour freeway crash in Mira Mesa.

The San Diego man was riding to the south on Interstate 15 when his 2017 Yamaha two-wheeler collided with a car just north of Miramar Way about 6:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. He then fell onto the roadway, where another passenger vehicle and a commercial cargo truck hit him.

Medics took the victim to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.

The accident led to heavier-than-usual congestion in the area for several hours, the CHP reported.
