Authorities released the names Tuesday of two lawmen who opened fire last week on an auto-theft suspect, missing her, as she allegedly drove a stolen pickup truck directly toward them during a pursuit in Barrio Logan.

San Diego police Officers Darius Jamsetjee and Angel Vidrios fired several rounds each at 32-year-old Jessica Turner in the 1300 block of Sampson Street on Friday morning, SDPD Lt. Todd Griffin said.

Moments later, the suspect crashed the Chevrolet Silverado she was driving into a trolley signal pole at Harbor Drive and Cesar Chavez Parkway, then jumped out of the damaged vehicle and ran off. Officers gave chase and took her into custody a short distance away.

The events that led to the non-injury police shooting a block southeast of the Coronado Bridge began shortly after 7 a.m., when Turner allegedly stole the work truck of an electrical contractor from a parking lot at the San Diego Convention Center.

As she was leaving the grounds of the bayside meeting-hall complex, the truck struck a golf cart being driven by an employee of the facility. The worker suffered no serious injuries in the collision, Griffin said.

Turner then drove off on Harbor Drive, tailed by another Convention Center employee and the auto theft victim — both of whom were in a black pickup truck — and a harbor police officer, SDPD Capt. Brian Ahearn told reporters. A short time later, Jamsetjee and Vidrios caught up with the stolen Chevrolet and joined in the pursuit.

After the suspect pulled several successive U-turns on Sampson Street, she allegedly accelerated the truck toward a group of law enforcement personnel, prompting the two city police officers to open fire on her.

After the suspect was arrested, medics took her to a hospital for treatment of apparently minor trauma she suffered in the solo crash of the stolen truck. She was booked that evening on suspicion of assault, auto theft, grand theft and evading arrest,

Turner was being held on $80,000 bail at Las Colinas women’s jail in Santee pending arraignment, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
