A trash truck caught fire Tuesday morning in the Black Mountain Ranch area of northern San Diego and spewed flaming oil into a nearby storm drain, authorities said.
Few details of the fire were immediately available, but San Diego Fire- Rescue Department crews were dispatched just before 9:15 a.m. to Haaland Glen near Camino Del Sur, SDFD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said. The trash truck apparently caught fire in the residential neighborhood at the far northern limit of the city.
No injuries were reported and the blaze was snuffed out around 9:30 a.m., Munoz said, but hazardous materials crews were dispatched to deal with oil that spilled out of the truck. A firefighter on scene told dispatchers the oil was flaming as it gushed into a nearby storm drain.
It wasn’t immediately known how the fire started.
