Authorities Monday identified a young man who was killed when the car in which he was riding crashed more than 500 feet down a cliffside.
The crash was reported about 10 a.m. Sunday on Glendora Ridge Road near Mile Marker 8, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Connor Reidhead, 18, of Montebello died at the scene, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
According to the CHP, Chris Flores, 18, of Montebello was driving a 2017 Ford Fiesta approaching a right curve in the roadway.
“As a result of his unsafe speed, he failed to properly negotiate the curvature of the road,” the CHP said in a statement. “This failure resulted in the Ford to travel in a northerly direction, off the roadway, descending down the mountainside.”
Flores and an 18-year-old female passenger from Los Angeles were hospitalized for treatment of “major injuries,” the CHP reported.
“Alcohol/drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this collision at this time,” the CHP statement said.
