San Diego Police captured an armed suspect Saturday after a wild chase through City Heights that frightened motorists and destroyed two school gates and a fire station fence.
At 12:25 p.m. officers spotted a pickup truck driven by the suspect in a shooting of several weeks ago. The suspect was stopped at a 7-Eleven store at 3105 Fairmont Avenue, but drove off with officers in pursuit.
The suspect drove through two gates at Central Elementary School and finally was entangled by the fence outside Fire Station 17 at 41st Street and University Avenue.
The suspect got out of the pickup with a gun in his hand, but dropped it when officers confronted him. He continued to resist, and was “hog tied” with straps.
Traffic on University Avenue was blocked for an hour during the investigation.
