A 20-year-old man riding a motorcycle suffered serious injuries Wednesday when he crashed while trying to avoid a vehicle turning in front of him in the College East neighborhood.
The crash was reported at 6:55 p.m. in the area of Montezuma Road and Catoctin Drive, said San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims.
The victim was riding his 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle east on the 6500 block of Montezuma Road in the No. 2 lane when an 82-year-old man driving a 1988 Mercedes-Benz was stopped in the left turn lane facing westbound Montezuma Road, Heims said.
The Mercedes-Benz made the left turn southbound onto Catoctin Drive violating the motorcyclist’s right of way and it caused the victim to lose control and crash, Heims said.
The rider sustained rib fractures and several other serious injuries and was taken to a hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening, Heims said.
There were no immediate report of an arrest or citation issued to the driver of the Mercedes-Benz.
