David Dominguez, 21, was arrested at his home in the 6000 block of Brooklyn Avenue at about 7:30 a.m., roughly eight hours after the fatal collision in Little Italy took place, according to San Diego police.
He allegedly failed to stop and sped off to the west, after his vehicle struck the 50-year-old pedestrian in a crosswalk at Pacific Highway and West Laurel Street.
The victim, whose name was withheld pending notification of his family, died at the scene, Lt. Scott Bender said. Dominguez was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of hit and run, vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
He was being held on $100,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
