Emergency crews responded to a sinkhole on Saturday morning in Otay Mesa West, that was caused by an underground water main break as well as a sewer main break, according to police.
San Diego police officers were called to the 1300 block of Del Sol Lane shortly after 11 a.m., where a truck had fallen into a sinkhole, according to Sgt. Ray Battrick. But the driver was able to get his truck out of the hole and was not injured.
The breaks also caused damage to SDG&E and Verizon utilities and about 20 customers were without water service, spokesman Arian Collins said.
“Once SDG&E shuts off the gas line, it will take City of San Diego Public Utilities Department crews an estimated eight hours to restore water service,” Collins said in a statement issued Saturday afternoon.
“Street repairs will not be completed until other utilities are repaired as well.”
