A bicyclist in her 40s was resuscitated three times on the way to a hospital Sunday after she was struck by a car near Sea World in San Diego, authorities reported Monday.
The accident occurred at 7:56 p.m. at the intersection of Friars Road and Sea World Drive, said San Diego Police Sgt. Jordan Wells.
The bicyclist was riding in the designated bicycle lane but on the wrong side of the road moving toward traffic when she failed to stop at a red light and was struck by a 1998 Toyota driven by a woman in her 30s, Wells said.
“She suffered blunt cardiac trauma, was resuscitated three times and is now in surgery,” he said. The woman carried no identification and was considered a Jane Doe.
Alcohol was not believed involved in the crash, Wells said.
“There’s not much the driver could have done. Bicyclists need to obey all laws including stopping at intersections and riding in the same direction as traffic,” Wells said.
