Officials released the name on Sunday of a man who was killed when his vehicle crashed into a parked car in Chula Vista.

According to the medical examiner’s office, 36-year-old Frank Javier Duron Jr. was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m. Friday after being taken to UC San Diego Medical Center.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department, Duran fled the scene of a minor crash near the intersection of Broadway and I Street around 4 p.m. and was possibly drunk at the time. Duron was driving a white Honda Civic at a high rate of speed and the reporting party followed him east on I Street while calling the police. While fleeing, Duron ran a stop sign at high speed and drove onto the wrong side of the street near First Avenue and I Street, where he struck a parked, unoccupied pickup truck, police said.

Police said Duron was trapped in the car from the impact of the crash and was rescued and given CPR by Chula Vista firefighters before he was taken to the hospital.

Officers at the scene observed an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, and the passenger compartment of the vehicle smelled of an alcoholic beverage, police said. No one else was injured in the crash.
