One person was hospitalized and a firefighter was injured Saturday morning in a Golden Hill apartment fire.
Firefighters were called to the 2800 block of B Street at about 2 a.m., where heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from a second floor unit in the Pacifica Apartments complex, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Capt. Joe Amador.
San Diego Police officers were already on scene evacuating the building when they discovered someone who was unconscious in the burning apartment. Firefighters rescued the victim, who was taken by ambulance to the UC San Diego Medical Center Burn Unit, Amador said. The victim’s identity and condition were not released.
A firefighter suffered minor burns to his ears but was not taken to a hospital. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to knock down the fire, according to Amador.
Damage was estimated to be $125,000 to the building and the apartment’s contents, Amador said. The cause was under investigation.
