Mike Walliser, 68, will be sentenced to three years and eight months in state prison on Jan. 3.

The defendant was charged with murder in the March 22, 2015, death of 50- year-old Ronald Drinkard.

Walliser was arrested after the killing, but no charges were filed. He was taken back into custody in February at his new home in Escondido when additional evidence came up, according to sheriff’s officials.

Early on the evening of March 22, 2015, Walliser made an emergency call to report that he had just shot the victim during an argument, sheriff’s homicide Lt. Kenneth Nelson said.

Deputies arrived to find Drinkard dead on the front porch of Walliser’s home in the 23300 block of Coyote Holler Road, the lieutenant said.

Walliser told detectives he had opened fire due to threats of violence Drinkard had made against him, according to Nelson.
