The California Highway Patrol has arrested 36 drivers on drunk driving charges in San Diego County so far this holiday weekend, according to statistics released Saturday.
That’s eight fewer than the same period last Thanksgiving. The statistics cover the period beginning 6 p.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Saturday.
Statewide, there were 618 drunk driving arrests, the same number as last year, according to CHP Officer Robert Catano. The 20 fatalities reported statewide so far this year are six more than last year, while San Diego County recorded two fatalities this year, the same as last year.
The reported DUI arrests were made only by the CHP, while the number of fatalities was for all law enforcement jurisdictions, Catano said.
