Police in National City sought Tuesday a 28-year-old man who beat his pregnant girlfriend during a dispute over infidelity and caused her to miscarry.

The victim, a 25-year-old Spring Valley woman, went to her estranged partner’s home on North Clairmont Avenue near Division Street shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday and an altercation ensued, according to a National City Police statement.

The woman told police the suspect punched her in her face and kicked her in her stomach. She was subsequently taken to Paradise Valley Hospital where it was determined that she had lost her 9-week-old fetus, police said.

The suspect fled after the altercation, police said. Neither his name nor a description was immediately available.
