A suicidal man in City Heights who called police to say he was going to take his own life apparently went through with his plan this Saturday afternoon.

San Diego Police SWAT officers, who had an apartment building surrounded after the man called 911 and threatened to commit suicide, found his body when they entered the apartment at about 2 p.m., according to officer Frank Cali.

“They found a man who had taken his own life,” Cali said.

The unidentified man called 911 shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday and told the dispatcher he wanted to commit suicide at an apartment in the 4400 block of Quince Street, Cali said.

Neighbors reported hearing at least one gunshot in the area since the phone call. Patrol officers called in the SWAT team when no one answered the apartment door.
