A big rig went up in flames on state Route 78 in Escondido, prompting authorities to close some eastbound lanes during Tuesday morning’s commute.

The tractor-trailer caught fire for unknown reasons while hauling building supplies east of the Nordahl Road exit shortly before 6:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The trucker was able to exit the burning cab and was not hurt, authorities said.

Three lanes were initially blocked, but two later reopened, according to the CHP.
