A SWAT standoff with a man suspected of stabbing his wife in his Imperial Beach home ended with the authorities finding his dead body, according to a CBS8 report.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department identified the man as Aurelio Perez, according to an official, Jan Caldwell.
Perez, in his early 40s, was armed with a knife and would not leave the apartment in the 500 block of Florence Street, Lt. Jim Walker said.
According to a 10News report, deputies fired tear gas canisters and a flash grenade in attempts to get Perez out of the unit.
The unidentified stabbing victim’s relation to Perez was unclear, but 10News identified her as Perez’s wife and said she was stabbed several times. The woman was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, 10News reported.
Homes next to the one where the suspect was hiding were evacuated, and Calla and Cypress avenues were closed, the sheriff’s department said.
