Two people were killed in a residential fire in Alpine on Saturday. At around 1:15 a.m., firefighters and San Diego County Sheriff’s Department deputies hurried to the fire that broke out in the 700 block of
South Grade Road. The home was engulfed in flames, Sgt. Luis Chavez said.

The department’s arson unit was called to investigate and found the two burned bodies. Two other people in the building escaped and suffered only minor injuries.

The bodies were given to the Medical Examiner to be identified, Chavez said. The investigation remains ongoing.
