A Chula Vista woman admitted Thursday that she fraudulently collected nearly $148,000 in disability payments over a 15-year period.
Mary Guadalupe Soto, 76, pleaded guilty to theft of public property.
Soto admitted that she failed to disclose her ownership of a residence in Tijuana, Mexico, when she applied for Supplemental Security Income in April 1999. By doing so, she fraudulently collected $147,762 in payments from the Social Security Administration, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Soto agreed to pay full restitution to Social Security, as well as $20,965 to the California Department of Health Care Services, the prosecutor said.
Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 18.
