Two people suffered major injuries in a two-vehicle crash that sent both automobiles hundreds of feet down the side of Interstate 15 on Wednesday.

The crash was reported just after 2 p.m. on the north side of the interstate north of Gopher Canyon, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatcher.

Mercy Air was called to the scene, the dispatcher said.

Two people were airlifted to a hospital, according to NBC7, which reported the vehicles — a minivan and a pickup truck — plunged nearly 250 feet down an embankment.

The pickup truck lost a wheel, crossed the center line and collided with the minivan, the station reported, citing information from the CHP.
