A bicyclist suffered severe injuries Friday in a solo crash on a Carmel Mountain street.

The 36-year-old man, who was wearing a helmet, was riding to the south in the 10800 block of Rancho Carmel Drive about 8:45 a.m. when he lost control for unknown reasons, according to San Diego police.

The bicycle veered off the roadway and crossed a sidewalk at the corner of Pebblebrook Way, then struck some bushes a large boulder, Officer Frank Cali said.
