Authorities asked the public Friday for help in identifying a thief who violently mugged a 70-year-old woman on a Rolando roadside and a cohort who later joined him in using her stolen credit cards.
The victim was walking home in the 6700 block of Amherst Street 8:30 p.m May 20 when a man approached and asked her for the time, according to San Diego police.
After following her for a short distance, the stranger grabbed the victim’s purse off her shoulder, pushed her to the ground face-first and ran away. The victim suffered several broken teeth and a fractured jaw.
Surveillance cameras subsequently captured images of two men using the victim’s credit cards to buy merchandise at a Wal-Mart store in the 5500 block of Grossmont Center Drive in La Mesa, police said.
Anyone with information about the case was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
