The two suspects went to the door of a residence on Rachel Avenue near East Sixth Street shortly before midnight, forced their way inside and went room to room demanding money from the man, according to a National City Police Department statement. They also threatened to tie up the resident and put him in the truck of their vehicle.
However, as the suspects were leaving with the residents’ large flat screen television, the victim’s wife was calling for help from a back bedroom, police said.
Officers sent to investigate stopped the suspects’ vehicle nearby and detained them after spotting the television in the back seat, police said.
Police later learned both were documented gang members. One was on parole for kidnapping and the other was on federal probation, according to the statement. Neither suspect’s name was immediately available.
