Authorities opened an investigation on Monday into the reported discovery of sewing needles concealed inside apples sold at a North County Albertsons supermarket.
A woman went to the store in the 1100 block of South Mission Road in Fallbrook on Saturday and told the management that she had sliced into two Honeycrisp apples she’d bought there six days earlier and found a needle in each, sheriff’s Sgt. Patrick Yates said.
Store officials removed all the other Honeycrisps in stock at the store and reviewed archived surveillance video of the produce section, finding no indication of suspicious activity in the images, the sergeant said.
The incident was reported to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department this morning. No suspects have been identified.
